My Rank in Society by Jordan - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
Halfway through my first semester as a graduating senior at Chesapeake High School, I have straight A’s and a positive outlook on what my class rank will be when I find out in about two months. I can look back and be exceedingly proud of myself for continuously being ranked in the top two percent of my class throughout my first three years of high school. Since there are about four hundred students in my class, I consider this a tremendous accomplishment. Being in the top two percent of my class for two consecutive years is what I am the most proud of because I had to juggle many other extracurricular activities along the way.
From the second I stepped into high school, I took on a whirlwind of difficult classes and extracurricular activities that would consume a generous amount of my time. Throughout my freshman, sophomore, and junior year, I took a total of seven AP classes. Since these classes were technically on a college curriculum, I spent much of my time on the work we received in those classes. The examinations taken in AP classes are also college level, so I devoted many hours to studying. On top of that, I played both soccer and lacrosse for my school. During those sports seasons, we either had a three hour practice or a game six days a week. Additionally, I had to find a way to fit in time to volunteer and spend time with my family and friends. Balancing school, sports, volunteering, and a social life was extremely crucial to having a successful high school career. Having to manage so many activities was definitely an obstacle I had to overcome to be ranked so highly in my class. It makes me feel immensely proud and confident because I put a lot of effort into maintaining a high class rank.
I am hoping that the effort I put into being in the top two percent of my class will translate into my life in the future. I want to pursue medical school after four years of college, but that will not be easy. To be accepted into medical school, you have to score well on the MCATs, provide a stellar transcript from college, and be able to cultivate a multitude of extracurricular activities. Remembering my high class rank accomplishments will remind me that I can do whatever I put my mind to. The drive I have shown trying to maintain my rank in the top two percent will be exceptionally useful, as it pushes me to be my best in every aspect of my life. Therefore, I will continue putting my finest effort into whatever it is I’ll be doing in the future.
Consistently being in the top two percent of my class is the school accomplishment I am most proud of because it took an incredible amount of effort I am a smart, driven, and confident person. Although there really isn’t a ‘rank’ in real life, I will continue to work hard and strive to be the best I can be in all of the components of my life.
