The Best Award I Could Ever Receive by Jorja - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
When you ask someone what their greatest accomplishment was while they attended four years of higher education, you will get a variety of answers. You have the athletes, who say their greatest accomplishment is winning the state trophy and title after the blood, sweat and and tears of 4 years of High School practices and games. The geniuses who say their biggest accolade is being named valedictorian or being admitted to an Ivy league school. To the popular girl, it is being named prom or homecoming queen after countless hours of getting your name out there. Each award gives them all the same emotion...pride!
My greatest accomplishment happened during my junior year of high school. The faculty and staff were asked to nominate one girl and one boy from each grade who would capture the qualities the Soaring Eagle’s Principal’s Award rewards - qualities that define a person who sets a good example academically, socially and athletically.
Once the teachers and staff placed their votes, there was a banquet that would be held the following week congratulating those who received the many awards throughout the year. I was given an invitation through the mail to attend the banquet. It read: Miss Jorja Gust, you have received the Soaring Eagle’s Principal award. We invite you to attend the awards ceremony April 3rd, 2016. Congratulations! I was in shock. The Soaring Eagle’s Principal award is the highest award in the junior class, and I won!
At school I don’t strive to be the most popular, but to be a friend to everyone. I don’t manipulate my teacher, but I let them know they are appreciated. I go to school everyday just like the rest of my classmates and I don't intend to be rewarded for it or even be noticed for it. I was honored to receive such a high award and I will never take it for granted.
