All the money in the world. by Joshua - May 2025 Scholarship Essay
Money is a privilege in today's world. In some places, you can work 8 hours a day, every day, and still only make barely enough to cover bills, not even mentioning groceries, miscellaneous expenses, and fun things you might want to do. There are a lot of things we want to do in our lives, and a lot of us just don’t have the money to do them. Eventually, we might want to have kids, and they might want to go to college, and college is not getting any cheaper. I know from my own experience that paying for college is something I and a lot of other people can’t do, so we search for scholarships, but most scholarships are still very competitive and everyone is trying to get as many as they can, just enough to make it easier to pay for their education, and it’s a hassle for everyone. Everyone needs a break from all this stress, and if I had unlimited money and time, I would find a way to make that happen.
For instance, I would make sure that everyone’s college fees are paid off, and that they can go through college and get their degrees while not worrying about money or how they’re gonna pay off all their debts. It would take a while to allocate the money to everyone, but as long as it happens, I would call that a win. I learned in school that a lot of areas in the world are littered with trash and pollution, affecting our health and the planet’s health, so that would be the next issue I address. I would clean every river, every ocean, every forest, even the atmosphere; get rid of all the trash and find a way to remove all the pollution. Although again, that would take almost forever, I have unlimited time, I’ll make it work.
Any time I look at the news or news sites like The New York Times, I see communities and homes that look like they’ve been through war. They look decrepit, they look like they lack life, and they look like they haven’t been maintained or cleaned in years. I live in an area where a lot of neighborhoods look like this. The only parts that ever look relatively new are the schools. So I, with the help of the officials of different towns, would help build up and improve communities that require help. In the process, I could also help out communities by funding and providing resources for different parts of the community, such as the schools, the stores, and the small businesses.
Since I started this journey of helping the world, I have been looking big and broad, looking at groups of people, which is good, but I could also help people on an individual scale. Although a lot of us face the same hardships, we also have our individual problems. Some of us are taking care of kids alone, some of us have no homes or jobs, some of us are in dangerous situations, some of us are stuck in financial loops, some of us are taking care of a loved one we hope desperatly live a little bit longer, and since I have unlimited time, I could go country to country, state to state, community to community, family to family, and help every single person, no matter how big or small an issue is, I could help. But I also know there are issues people face that can’t be solved with money, and in these cases, I can help those people in any way they need, ranging from providing them with the appropriate resources, such as a therapist, or helping them find something to be passionate about, or even just being there for them, if they so choose, because every now and then, all someone might need is a hug.
A lot can be done with unlimited money and time; you could change the entire world with never-ending money and time, but I feel that the biggest issues we face in the world are the ones we face on an individual level, the ones that money can only do so much about, as those are the ones we often face alone, and those would be the ones that I would want to address the most.
