Overcoming Academic Challenges by Joy - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my educational career, I have faced many challenges that have impacted me both negatively and positively. From the lockdown of COVID-19 to something as simple as being unable to understand a piece of homework, I have always been able to overcome all of the academic challenges I have been presented with. One specific event came to mind when thinking of these struggles that I have overcome. This occurred during my Junior year of High School when I took a college credit writing course through Bowling Green State University. This course not only was challenging due to the level of the assignments but also the amount of time we spent without an available teacher.
When taking this writing class, the person teaching me and my peers went on maternity leave, meaning that for over half of the semester that we spent in the classroom, we were without a teacher. This made it extremely difficult to ask questions and seek help when needed. There were several assignments that I struggled with due to this. By seeking help through messaging my teacher online and communicating with the professor from the university, I was able to get a better understanding of how to complete each task. I also had my classmates and surrounding peers to help me know what was expected. From this, I was able to use that information to 0-achieve a higher level of success. By overcoming this struggle, I am now able to work on my own without an educator present and still be able to find the resources to assist me with my assignments and learn more about how to work alone.
