Guided by Civics A Teacher's Impact on My Engineering Passion by Justin - January 2025 Scholarship Essay
Educators have the chance of leaving a lasting impact on one's life. I am a senior in high school and have encountered many educators in my twelve years of schooling and one year being dually enrolled in community college.
I have recently developed a knack for civil engineering and road design, especially regarding lawful practices related to government infrastructural mandates, which led me to my third-period civics and government class. In this class, we dove into politics and law, and it became clear to me that the world revolves around the government regardless of what field is being studied. I not only fell in love with the civics and government class but also my teacher, Mr. Darren Willis. An immense bond and friendship developed as our personalities aligned. Along with the friendship we shared, I strongly desired to attend his class daily, as it related to my plans for lawful practices in civil engineering and how politics is a gateway to completing major engineering projects.
He was always kind and compassionate. He truly cared about his students, especially those who put forth effort in class. Unfortunately, I completed his course this December as we transitioned into the spring semester. I have deeply missed our morning conversations, whether they related to government and politics or the love for sports we shared. Stopping by his class periodically will have to become routine as we stay in touch.
