Education Will be Revolutionary by Kadyn - May 2020 Scholarship Essay

The newest generation of teachers that are going into college now, or are graduating from college, are ones who understand what students deal with on a day to day basis because they themselves faced very similar obstacles to them. In 50 years, although times will have changed, I believe that the education students will receive will be like nothing we've experienced in the past because of the teachers that will be teaching it. The teachers will be able to connect with their students because of shared experiences. Our generation has been witness to the biggest technology boom in history, and we reflect that in how we learn and how we will teach.

High school students often poke fun at teachers when they are behind the times technology-wise, and they talk behind the backs of teachers who are out of touch with students emotionally. This is something that I think will be rare in the future. We are raising a generation of future teachers that will in no way be behind the ball and in every way be able to engage their students harnessing technology, rather than trying to use everything but it in their classrooms. We are raising a generation of future teachers that will be able to speak to and connect with their students on an emotional level and connect with them in ways that teachers now cannot because of this widening gap between generations.

Education will be an even more vital necessity in our future. College expenses will begin to be paid for by the government, widening the opening for students trying to further their education. This will cause jobs to be able to hire more experienced workers and the demand to increase, causing more people who might not otherwise consider higher education to enroll in a university or college in order to get the job that they want.

Education has to change to assist every student in their quest for information. This means catering to each individual’s need in order to see them succeed. This could entail employing more special education teachers who would be able to not only help the academically struggling students but also the students who just request extra help, even if they don’t appear to be struggling on paper. Our education system as a nation has to change to make sure that each student, no matter where they may live, the color of their skin, or the language that they speak, gets an equal shot at success in this country.

I see a future with students who are unafraid to go ask a teacher for help. I see a future where no student is left behind academically and every student is given an equal chance to thrive. I see a future where teachers and guidance counselors do things for their students because they know what it is like to have authority figures like themselves do nothing to help them. In this way, with educators doing things like this, education will be revolutionary.
