College Freshman Journey by Kaitlyn - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
My name is Kaitlyn Bullard, and I am a rising freshman at the University of Alabama, majoring in Nursing. My motivation to pursue my academic goals comes from a deep desire to be the first woman in my family to obtain a degree in medicine. This goal is not just about earning a degree; it is about proving to myself and my mom that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
Growing up, I watched my mom work tirelessly to provide for our family. She always encouraged me to dream big and never settle for less. Her sacrifices and unwavering support have been my biggest inspiration. I want to make her proud and show her that all her hard work was worth it. Being a Black and Hispanic woman, I also want to break barriers and be a role model for other young girls in my community.
Staying focused on my academic goals is not always easy. There are many distractions and challenges along the way. However, I am determined to stay on track. I set small, achievable goals for myself and celebrate each milestone. This helps me stay motivated and reminds me of the bigger picture. I also make a study schedule and stick to it as much as possible. Having a routine helps me manage my time better and keeps me from feeling overwhelmed.
Another way I stay focused is by surrounding myself with positive influences. I have a supportive group of friends and mentors who encourage me and hold me accountable. They remind me of my potential and push me to keep going, even when things get tough.
My high school GPA of 3.26 reflects my dedication and hard work, but I know I can do even better in college. I am excited to start this new chapter at the University of Alabama and take advantage of all the opportunities available to me. I am committed to putting in the effort needed to succeed and make a difference in the field of nursing.
In conclusion, my motivation to pursue my academic goals comes from a desire to be the first woman in my family to obtain a degree in medicine and to make my mom proud. Staying focused is challenging, but with determination, a solid routine, and a strong support system, I am confident that I can achieve my dreams. Thank you for considering my application for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest.
