Leading by example- Doing it so my students can too by Kameryn - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
My name is Kameryn Brintley, and I am a high school junior with a passion for history and education. I am writing to share an academic challenge I have overcome, which has been a significant part of my journey towards becoming a teacher.
This year, I took on the challenge of enrolling in college-level courses while still in high school. Balancing high school responsibilities with college coursework was daunting. I knew that taking these classes would push me academically and prepare me for the future, but I underestimated the level of commitment required.
The college courses demanded a higher level of critical thinking, time management, and self-discipline than I was used to. I found myself juggling multiple assignments, projects, and exams, all while trying to maintain my high school GPA of 3.8. It was overwhelming at times, and I questioned whether I had taken on too much.
To overcome this challenge, I had to develop new strategies for success. I started by creating a detailed schedule to manage my time effectively, allocating specific hours for studying, completing assignments, and attending classes. I learned to prioritize tasks based on deadlines and importance, which helped me stay organized and focused.
Another key to overcoming this challenge was seeking support from my peers and instructors. I formed study groups with fellow students, where we shared insights and helped each other understand difficult concepts. Additionally, I reached out to my college instructors for guidance and clarification when needed. Their support and encouragement were invaluable in helping me navigate the complexities of college-level coursework.
Through this experience, I learned the importance of resilience and adaptability. It taught me how to handle stress and pressure, skills that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future academic and professional endeavors. More importantly, it reinforced my passion for education and my desire to become a teacher. I want to help students overcome their challenges and reach their full potential, just as I have worked to do.
I am particularly interested in attending Liberty University, South Carolina State University, or Livingstone College to pursue a degree in history and education. These institutions will provide me with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the classroom.
In conclusion, taking college classes during my junior year has been one of the biggest challenges I have faced. It has strengthened my commitment to education and my goal of becoming a teacher. I am eager to continue this journey and make a difference in the lives of future students.
