Getting Involved by Kamryn - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

Taking the incoming freshman class into Norwalk High School, the first thing they will notice is the very large image of our districts seal on the tile floor, and how much larger the school is compared to our middle school. As we start the tour of our school although it is bigger, they will notice there is an organized chaos to the school. Most incoming freshman look at the movies to know what high school is really like. This is a common mistake causing them to fear walking in the halls and not wanting to move out of their friend groups from middle school.
The main advice I would give to these freshman is to get involved. I will not be able to stress this enough to the incoming class. Join as many clubs and sports as possible. This will help them to meet new people, and even if they do not think that they would enjoy the specific club or sport, they should still try and see how everything works out. Also, getting involved may break them out of their shell and make them be more outgoing.
Out of all of the other advice incoming freshman will most likely hear before their first day of high school, this is more important than most other tips and tricks of high school. With this advice they may turn out to be the most outgoing person the last day of senior year even if they came in as the shyest person the first day of freshman year. At the end of the day the more you join, the more opportunities you may have in the future.
