One Piece of Advice by Karla - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

Karla Segura

High school is over in a blink of an eye. In my opinion the high school time flies, well for it did. When being in sports and being enrolled in classes that involve extra curricular activities time goes by fast. High school could be one out of two, either boring or exciting, it all depends on how you make it. One piece of advice for those incoming freshman is to be involved in clubs and sports, and make the best of it.

When being involved in clubs the advantage is that you get to socialize with other people you’ve never talked to. Socializing with others with eventually turn out with you making new friends and then those friends will bring their friends along and you’ll have friends all over the place. This will all happen due to the fact that you joined that club, if you don't, you probably won’t have as many friends. Those friends from that club will become your support system because you guys are doing similar activities or might even have the same classes. I say you join a club you won’t regret it, you’ll gain a support system from it.

Now when being in a sport, you have to understand that when you have practice and games you will have to balance out with school. In order for you to play a sport you have to have above a 2.0, if not then your not eligible to play. No athlete is going to be happy with their team going off to have a game and your stuck in school because you didn’t have grades to play. The average of a 2.0 is at least all Cs in your classes, which isn’t asking for an impossible goal. So make sure that if you do join a sport you ask teachers for the work that was done in class the day you had a game. Also make sure you're determined to do all your work and talk to that teacher so that they know what's going on and know you care about their class.

When it comes to Ap or Honors classes, I say you take those classes when you know your not going to join any clubs or sports. These classes will keep you busy and also will help you get ready for your future. These classes are advanced and will do twice the work than in regular classes but it's mainly getting you ready for college. So if you're not passionate about a club or sport I say you at least dedicate all your time to school and make sure your top of the class with the highest GPA. Ap and Honors classes give you college credits if you pass the Ap exam or honors tests which is money you get to keep because you don’t have to take those classes in college. If you pass the exam, you don’t have to waste your time in college taking those classes.

It all depends on what kind of student you want to be whether it's the one involved in clubs, the athlete or the Ap and Honors student. Whichever it is make sure you have fun and don’t take classes you can’t handle, stay on top of your classes. High school is only a short time period so live it to the fullest and make as many friends as you can, you never know you might need them later on in life. Always stay out of drama and remember that doing drugs or bad things isn’t cool it makes you look bad.
