Lessons Learned by Katherine - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
There are many things one could be proud of throughout their time spent at school - for example, getting an A on a test or understanding a complex concept, etc. For me though, my school accomplishment that I'm most proud of is my spring semester final grades junior year. I finished that semester with all A's; now that hadn't been my first time finishing a semester so well, but it was by far the finish I was most proud of myself for accomplishing. Not only were the classes I took that semester challenging, - AP History and Honors Pre-Calc - but also I successfully managed a school sports and a travel sport as well.
Now this may seem like a small feat for someone's most proud moment in school, but I learned more that semester of junior year than I had my whole high school career. When I say I learned the most from my spring semester I'm not referring necessarily to book knowledge, though I did obtain that too; I am referring to the life lessons I learned. For example, I learned time management skills, how to prioritize my life, and how to achieve success. These three skills are important to have in your academic career but they are also extremely important to take with you through life. Time management skills and prioritizing go hand-in-hand because to make sure you manage your time well you must be sure to know the order of importance the tasks to complete are. The skill to achieving success seems so naive, just do it, but it's more than that. Achieving success doesn't happen overnight; it takes hard work, long hours, and dedication.
This simple-minded, proud moment of my high school career may seem mediocre to other successes students achieve in their high school careers, but it's important to know that sometimes the most important things come in the littlest packages. At the end of the day, I ended spring semester of my junior year a better student and person than I started. To me, that's a pretty big accomplishment.
