Seeing Beyond the Surface: My Calling to Radiology by kayona - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

When I first saw a radiologic image revealing what the human eye couldn't, I realized I didn't just want to see beneath the surface, I wanted to understand it. Hello all, my name is Kayona Dean. I am heading to the University of Cincinnati for the dream of pursuing a major in radiology. I chose this major for the great desire of what science and technology could do! You're telling me this CT machine can scan around my head for a few minutes, and you would be able to see instead of my head? Wow! Interesting right?

Although, what draws me to radiology isn't just the technology, but the power to uncover hidden truths and to diagnose the unseen. I mean come on, without our radiologic technologist and radiologist who would be there to help our loved ones or even ourselves to catch a disease beforehand? I am astonished by the fact that radiology plays a critical role in saving lives without ever picking up a scalpel! It makes me so excited to talk about radiology and how cool it is; it's like my whole spirit lights up! Every word flows with passion, and I just can't help but smile! I'm actually still grinning as I'm typing... If the company of the Varsity Tutors chose me to win the scholarship, they would also feel the joy of knowing that they just made a great impact on a future Radiologist!
