How Tutoring Affected me by Kotoe - January 2017 Scholarship Essay

Being a part of my community is important to me and I am involved in many activities with school. One way I have been able to give back to my community is by tutoring. Since I have been in the high school, I have been tutoring other students in multiple subjects. At first I saw tutoring as a requirement of honor societies, but now enjoy being able to give back to my community and helping others.
I have tutored a couple of people one on one in specific subjects, but I mostly tutor through a club run by the middle school called Homework Club. For a couple of hours every Tuesday and Thursday some other high school students and I will go to the middle school and help students with their homework. I also help students prepare for tests and go over material that they are struggling with. Many of these students’ grades and struggle through school can easily be fixed by just doing their homework. This club helps set aside a time for them to do their homework, where as if they were to just go home, they would mostly likely not do it on their own. I have been a part of this club for the past three years and believe that this club has definitely made a difference.
