Assisting My Education Journey by Kylee - January 2025 Scholarship Essay
During my schooling career, many people have impacted my life. One teacher specifically has truly affected my education journey these last couple of years. Mrs. D is a first-grade teacher at Allen East, and she has allowed me to help out in her classroom during my free periods for the last few school years. I do tasks such as copying papers, making crafts for the kids, working with small groups, grading papers, and anything else she may need me to do during my time there. I aim to help her as much as possible and do things she doesn’t always have the time to do. The tasks that she has to do aren’t always the same, which is nice because it allows me to do new things. I have learned how to copy papers, use a label maker, grade papers for younger kids, and do much more. She allows me to branch out and learn new ideas I can use when I become a teacher.
Last school year I also helped out Mrs. D, but it was a lot different due to her being on maternity leave for most of the school year. It was hard because there wasn’t always stuff for me to do. Due to the substitute teacher trying to figure out the lessons, they weren’t worried about giving me tasks because they focused on their plans for the upcoming day, not the next week or two. However, once Mrs. D returned from maternity leave towards the end of the school year, she had me do many tasks to prepare her classroom for the next school year. This year she has many tasks for me to do every day when I come in and I love it because I get to help her out and do different things. Overall, I have loved working in her classroom for these last few years and cannot wait to use some of her teaching skills in my classroom one day.
