Knowledge is Power: My Hope for Education’s Future by Lebene - September 2025 Scholarship Essay
My name is Lebene Ashinyo, and I am currently a senior at Delaware State University majoring in biology with a concentration in health professions.
Since I was younger, my parents always emphasized the importance of education, reminding me that knowledge is both wealth and power.
Education opens doors to opportunities you might not have thought of, they taught me. Regretfully, the future of education does not appear to be as promising as it could be given the way many current leaders are handling it. There are fewer resources available to students now to achieve because of the elimination or underfunding of crucial programs that I used when I was younger.
Major educational reforms that better prepare children for life outside of the classroom as well as for academic success are what I expect to see over the next 10 years. More practical skills like financial literacy, career preparedness, and mental health awareness should be included in the curriculum. Students will need these skills to deal with maturity, although they are frequently disregarded. I also wish that educational opportunities become more equal. Children's access to top-notch educators, modern technology, and secure learning spaces shouldn't be influenced by their neighborhood. No student should be denied the opportunity to succeed because of their background. Our society's future is at stake if we make investments in kids today.
In general, I would like to see education change into a system that empowers kids, sets them up for success, and resurrects the belief that knowledge is actually power in 10 years.
