My Ten Year Plan by mackenzie - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

I plan to attend a four-year nursing program at Marywood University where I will obtain a bachelor’s degree. I will sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to obtain my license to become an RN. After working in the field for at least a year I will apply to either the University of Scranton or Wilkes University for my doctorate as a nurse practitioner.
I have extensively researched this field and I am interested in working in a hospital setting as an RN. I believe this will be an excellent place to receive experience with various conditions and diagnoses. This will also allow me to work with many different healthcare professionals as well as family members, and patients young and old. I will obtain tuition reimbursement to return for my nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, I would like to work in a doctor’s office seeing patients one-on-one to diagnose and discuss their medical issues individually. I believe that educating patients is essential since they are the most important person that can make the biggest difference in their health.
I want to someday become a girls’ softball coach and inspire them to do well in life and share my passion. Once I am established in a job as a nurse practitioner, I plan to coach a girls’ softball team on a recreation level, work my way up to coaching high school and eventually forming my own travel softball team. I believe that playing softball was a big influence in being the person I am today. I am hard-working and determined to succeed.
