Combating Injustice by Madelyn - June 2023 Scholarship Essay
In 10 years I see myself living in California working tirelessly at my law firm to combat the civil rights violations that are committed against people in our country. Education is essential to making this dream come true. I am attending Chapman University in the Fall and when I start, I want to major in psychology. I will use the knowledge I gain about human behavior to go to law school and become a civil rights lawyer. As I have gotten older and learned more about the world I have become increasingly disturbed with the civil rights violations that happen every day in our country. I came across civil rights law and immediately felt this was the path I needed to pursue. I realized that if I combine my fascination with psychology and law, I could help people who don't have anyone else advocating for them. No matter what happens in the future, I know that I want to use my degree to help as many people as I can to fight against the injustices that they experience living in America.
Attending college will give me the tools and connections that will help me get where I need to be. Chapman specifically has amazing resources that will help me pass the LSAT and get me into law school. Without college I cannot go to law school and become what I am meant to be. As I attend Chapman, I will meet people and make connections that will continue to benefit me throughout my education and beyond. The faculty will instill their vast knowledge of human behavior and law practices into me and I will use what they teach me for the rest of my life. Additionally, the other students I meet will challenge me throughout college and work alongside me in the future.
At the end of the day, I hope to use the education I am so blessed to receive from Chapman to prepare me for my career in law. And in 10 years I hope to be helping as many people as I can find justice from atrocities that are committed against them. Education is a gift and I hope to use it to help people who truly need it.
