The Girl at Night by Madison - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
I am, without a single ounce of doubt, a night owl. For some reason, I just tend to have a clearer train of thought at night. When I am assigned math homework I normally cannot seem to get it done during my morning class, but if I look at it again before bed I can finish the whole assignment. I think having the comfort of doing work from my bed allows me to have no distractions. The quiet environment that my room offers me is how I get majority of my assignments done.
I lay out all my outfits the night before wearing them, otherwise, I will roll out of my bed in whatever I am wearing. If I have my outfit already planned then I feel obligated to wear it and dress better for that day. When I do this every night I am saving myself approximately 30 minutes in the morning. I can spend that time sleeping or doing my hair for the day if my outfit requires it. There are studies written about night owls on thesleepdoctor.com, explaining that night owls have more stamina throughout their long day. They also said that night owls display greater reasoning and analytical abilities than early risers. Nothing against early risers, as I am sure they too have benefits. I have never been an early riser, not even on Christmas. My family would have to drag me out of bed as a kid to go open presents.
I like being a night owl and would never try to change it.
