The Power of Technology by Madyson - January 2020 Scholarship Essay
Sometimes it amazes me how few resources some teachers used to have when teaching kids. Now, looking back on my past high school years, my teachers have used many different methods of teaching. Some enjoy drawing on the whiteboards with markers, while others are more hands-on and enjoy dissecting plants and animals and performing experiments to truly make their lessons come alive. But some of the best I have taken were more interesting, informational, and educational thanks to the technology that my teachers used during their lessons. The use of technology in the classroom includes a number of things, such as watching videos, playing interactive games, and being entertained while taking notes off of a Powerpoint. Because I am a visual learner, being able to have technology in my classrooms has made the material easier for me to understand and memorize.
There are many kinds of technology one can use in the classroom. For instance, several years ago my teachers all received Smart Boards, which allowed the students to be able to watch videos on a bigger screen, play fun games like Jeopardy as a review for an exam, or draw a diagram on the board without needing to clean the board afterward. Another great use of technology in the classroom is Apple TVs. These TV’s are able to quickly connect to a teacher’s iPad and project things from the iPad for all to see.
These things and more are wonderful examples of how well technology works in the classroom. I can honestly say I do not think I would be doing as well in school as I am if it wasn’t for the technology.
