I dream that one day I will become a diplomat. Politics and more specifically international relations is an area I became passionate about when I started reading the news. Every morning I get a notification from the New York Times informing me of some new piece of information about the current conflicts going on in the world, and sometimes I don’t understand the significance of it. That is when I pick up my computer or run to my dad to ask if there is some background knowledge that will help me understand better, and when I do, it never fails to blow my mind. In history class, my favorite part is our weekly class seminars and debates, where we, as a class, get to reflect and discuss the current topic of our studies. This year has been the most fascinating history class of my life, and our topic is “The Move to Global War” from the late 1920s to the start of World War II. Being an international student makes this even more compelling because I understand the vitality of good relations between powers and I aspire to one day help make a change in world relations. I strive to become the diplomat or ambassador that I read about in the textbooks, and I hesitated for a long time between becoming a historian or a diplomat but I realized that I didn’t want to be the one writing history, I wanted to be the one that changes it.
