Academic Challenge by MaKayla - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

Over my academic career, I have faced several challenges. I was placed into an online beginners chemistry course which I was very confident in since I did very well in my high school chemistry class. I tried the class for a few weeks and after tutoring and many other resources I decided it was best if I dropped the course. I decided to try again next semester, but this time I attended the in-person version of the course. I still struggled. I reached out to my advisor and she informed me that I should have never been in the course in the first place since I did not meet the prerequisite requirement. I was proud of myself for not giving up immediately and trying many different ways to help me succeed. During my last semester of my previous college, I was waiting for my last assignment to be graded in one of my classes. The grade finally came back, but it was not what I expected. I had received a zero due to plagiarism. I was very frustrated because I knew that I did not plagiarize. I reached out to my professor and never received a response. I ended up having to email four different administrators in the span of almost two months to try and get my grade changed. I almost gave up, but was determined since it had dropped my grade from an A to a B. I eventually reached out to the dean and had my grade changed to a 100. All the hard work had finally paid off.
