Helping the Helpless by Matthew - January 2017 Scholarship Essay

Every year I have been on the varsity football team our head coach has organized a way for the team to go out in the community and help others. This past year it involved going down to the local food bank and spending some time to help others. They started off by showing us around the huge facility , then quickly there after put us to work.

We started by filling gallon zip-lock baggies with corn , I was in charge of bringing the large bags of corn over to every station. Others were responsible for filling the bags with corn. After we were done with filling the bags we went to load these bulky crates onto a truck. Some of the crates we had to roll on a dolly because of their weight. Moving the crates probably took the longest amount of time , but afterwards we got to go into their large freezer. The leader of the food drive closed the door and it was absolutely freezing in there. Right before we left he and his staff made sure to take a picture with us and thanked us for coming out. I find that when you take time out of your hectic schedule to serve others it makes you feel better.
