Night Owl by Mayme - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

The concept of being a night according to Merriam Webster owl is a “person who keeps late hours at night.” Often people ask if you are an early bird or night owl. I consider myself a night owl for the reasons of productivity, range of day, and work schedule.
The main reason I would consider myself a night owl is due to the fact my level of focus is greatly improved at night. I often find myself struggling to wake up at early hours of the day and get things done in an efficient amount of time. Most people would typically believe that going to bed early and waking up early is the most effective way to be productive, but that is not the case for everyone. There have been multiple times that I specifically get up early in order to accomplish a long days work of tasks, but at the end of the day, I feel no more productive than if I were to stay up late. I feel that simply adjusting my range of day to what best fits my lifestyle is the best way to achieve the most in life.
The second concept is simply comprised of the lack of willpower. As with a lot of people my age, teenagers just do not like to wake up at six in the morning in order to complete a long and rewarding day of hard work. It is just much easier for myself to wake up naturally at whatever time of day that might be, and work as late as I necessary. Equivalently to the last paragraph, it’s all about the range of day, rather than the time woken up.
The final point to discuss falls under the category of my work. I am employed at CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha, which is the events and sports arena here in town. Most concerts and events happen in the evening, which keeps me up pretty late. A typical concert ranges from five in the evening to midnight. This means that I do not typically make it home until 12:30, and won’t make it to bed until even later.
In conclusion, I would consider myself to be a night owl. I see myself as more productive, better thinking, and very capable in the evening hours of the day. This thinking, along with my work schedule and overall range of day make me the unique night owl that I am.
