Technology in my education by Meah - January 2020 Scholarship Essay
Technology has made a tremendous change in society including school usage. In my experiences, technology has been used every day in the classroom for as long as I can remember. In elementary school, projectors were shown on the white board to enlarge notes and a computer lab was visited by all classes once a week. In middle school, laptops or iPads were given to each student for in class use for research or games, such as Kahoot. Now in high school with many changes in technology, it is used for most of the student’s class work with notes posted online in classes and promethean boards that teachers use to acquire internet. Google classroom is a simple website that can allow teachers to post grades for the student to see and look over a rubric of an assignment used in my physics and world history classes. In addition, my junior and senior years in school have been the most effected by technology since I am enrolled in the Lynchburg Regional Governor’s STEM Academy. This allows for me to take my classes at the Central Virginia Community College to receive transferable credits. Since my professors are used to teaching college students, they use the internet to post and remind about assignments through websites, previously Blackboard now replaced by Canvas. Many teachers also keep in contact with students through email or text message that has provided a simple communication. My STEM related classes also take advantage of technology by having our classes in a computer lab for learning coding and using computer aided design labs. My mechatronics class codded marble sorters to sort four different marbles that needed a computer program to complete. Similarly, in blueprint drafting students used the CAD lab programed onto the desktops to learn how to technologically draft in contrary to manually. I have taken online government my senior year, which is my first online class, which requires a computer and internet access to complete assignments. Technology has positively allowed for me and all students to experience the future of the technology age at first hand. Technological devices make the learning process simple and more enjoyable since it already impacts society and is used every day.
