My Positive Impact by Monique - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I were running for student body president, the main impact on my school would be to create an environment where my peers feel that their concerns are heard and lead to real action. Student governments tend to focus on activities on how to make school a better place, like spirit week or little events. Those activities are fine, but they don't necessarily fix everyday problems. Students really want to know that their voices matter, they're heard, and how their feedback can actually make a change in something.

My top priority would be building a system that students can use to provide anonymous feedback. The system would allow students to report any and all issues, suggest improvements, and share all ideas they may have. Nothing submitted would go unseen, and all voices will be heard. At the end of every week, the student government would review the feedback provided and post updates on what issues are being addressed at the moment, what has been fixed, and what's next to be worked on. When students are able to see this, it keeps them engaged and involved with the school.

The goal is not to just fix little issues here and there, like messy bathrooms or broken water fountains, although those do matter. My goal is to establish a strong structure that the future student leaders can continue to use as well. If my process is strong, the school will continue to improve long after my term ends.

My biggest impact would be creating a school environment where all my peers feel heard, confident, and respected, believing that their concerns lead to real change.
