Positives of Technology by Morgan - November 2025 Scholarship Essay

Technology has positively impacted my life as a student, in many ways. I am a new student at The University of Phoenix this year and I would never have been able to go back to college without the flexibility of online schooling. I have a husband and two small children at home and physically going to class is not in the cards at this time in my life.
One of the reasons why technology has positively impacted my education is learning at my own pace. Instead of sitting in a classroom for a certain amount of time, I can go online and get the amount of work done that I can in that sitting. I enjoy learning by watching power points and presentations, especially because I can pause it at any point. It makes creating notes easier. I can pause it and add what I need to. I do feel that, because I have struggled with going to school in the past, that this allows me the same learning experience as someone who might be “better” at school than me.
A huge advantage of being online is the online library that we have access to. It is so much easier to go onto the website and type in key words for an article, book, or whatever type of paper I need. It is also helpful that I can trust that it is peer reviewed and I do not need to worry about it being a trustworthy piece. It will make researching for papers much easier than going in person to a library and needing a librarian’s assistance.
Since starting an online class, I do feel that I am more engaged as a student than I have been before. It has helped me write better, by using my writing skills and practicing them every time I log on. Being online, I notice that I can interact with my classmates more often and I can read other people’s opinions and thoughts on topics, whereas in class not everyone would have a chance to discuss their beliefs on a topic. It has helped me become more open-minded and understand where people come from with their ideas.
I think technology has its pros and cons when it comes to education and the classroom. I do think that the benefits outweigh the bad. It will be interesting to see how technology continues to change and how it continues to change the education system.
