My dream by myah - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

My name is Myah Smith. I am a seventeen year old senior and female at Knoch High School. As a determined and passionate student, I have always strived to excel in my academic and extracurricular pursuits. I committed a lot of my time and dedication to my track accomplishments. As well as my years in volleyball and soccer that gave me a well rounded background in sports. My journey through high school has been marked by a commitment to both my studies and my community, and I am eager to continue this journey at the collegiate level with the support of this scholarship. I also participate in history and science clubs at my high school, and enjoy volunteering in projects for my community. My high school experience took an unexpected turn when I suffered an ACL injury this year that not only deterred my participation in sports—but took a toll on me mentally. The lack of mobility and the inability to participate in my daily activities was a significant change. Personally I love living an over productive lifestyle; hence this injury was a significant setback. However it also became a pivotal moment in my life. Through the pain and the long recovery process, I gained a deeper understanding of determination and resilience. I learned that true strength comes not from avoiding challenges but from facing them head-on and persevering through adversity. This experience has shaped my character and strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in healthcare. I plan to attend Slippery Rock University to study as a Physician Assistant. I will be majoring in Biology to further my educational background. I hope to make the accelerated three plus two program–which would allow a Masters of Science degree in only five years. My goal is to use my education and experiences to make a meaningful impact on the healthcare system. I believe that my leadership skills, independence, and strong work ethic will enable me to contribute positively to the field. Health care has interested me since I was a little girl. I am committed to advocating for patient-centered care and working towards a more efficient and compassionate healthcare system. Receiving this scholarship would not only alleviate the financial burden of college but also enable me to focus on my studies and continue contributing to my community. I plan to not only strive in academics during college, but also to accomplish many research and patient care hours. The entirety of high school I have worked jobs. Between supervising, managing, waitressing, and housekeeping I learned to save my paychecks. I even enjoy budgeting, yes I know the sounds abnormal; but I really do love it. I understand the value of a dollar, and work very hard on top of school, sports, and clubs. I am confident that with the support of this scholarship, I will be able to achieve my academic and career goals while continuing to serve and inspire others.
