Required Elective/Extracurricular by Nicole - June 2025 Scholarship Essay

My opinion on a required elective or extracurricular activity would be a cooking class, or a class to help prepare them for adulthood. I feel as if there are many students out there that would have benefited from this whether they just graduated high school or have been out of high school for a while now. Sometimes more teaching on adulthood should be taught in schools instead of just coming from parents. Not everyone is ready to just be thrown out there in the world to learn on their own.

Many young adults today seem to struggle with some life skills. While there are others out there that seem to know what they are doing. Students need to be prepared with what to expect in adulthood. They need to know how to budget, pay bills, file and pay taxes. There are some out there that need the extra help to prepare them for all of the adult life requirements. I feel as if myself could have benefited from some of these life lessons in entering adult life even though I am thirty five years old. There are life skills I wish I could have learned so that I was prepared rather than learning cold turkey.
