Born again through hard work. by Noelgeorden - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

When I think about challenging academic experiences, the one that stands out the most happened during my junior year of high school. Like many students, I had a lot on my plate, but I was determined to succeed because of the opportunities completing this task would open for me. Because it was not easy, and I faced a particularly tough time because I had to study for my other final exams while completing a major group project to put on display for the school.
The school science fair was a significant part of being allowed into higher level classes and required us to conduct experiments, analyze data, and present our findings. At the same time, I was also preparing for exams in other subjects like algebra and U.S. history, which were less demanding but still on my mind. The pressure was on, and I found myself struggling to manage my time effectively afterschool. Initially, I felt overwhelmed. I remember sitting in my room surrounded by textbooks and notes, feeling like there just were not enough hours in the day to get everything done. My grades were important to me, and I did not want to let my friend down, nor did I want to perform poorly on my exams.
To overcome this challenge, I knew I had to make some changes in how I approached my studies. First, I sat down and created a detailed schedule. I broke down my tasks into smaller, manageable parts and allocated specific times for studying each subject and working on the project. This helped me see that even though there was a lot to handle, it was possible to tackle everything if I stayed organized.
Next, I reached out for help. I spoke with my Chemistry teacher, who was understanding and offered guidance on how to prioritize tasks. She reminded me that it was okay to ask for assistance and that working together with my group members could lighten the load. This was a turning point for me, as I realized the importance of collaboration and communication. I met with my group more frequently, and we divided the work based on each member's strengths. This not only made the project more manageable but also taught me valuable teamwork skills.
I also learned to take better care of myself during this period. I made sure to get enough sleep, eat well, and take short breaks to clear my mind. These small changes made a big difference in my ability to focus and retain information.
As the weeks went by, I noticed a change. My study sessions became more productive, and before i knew it my science fair project started to come together. On the day of our presentation, I was nervous for the long day ahead, but I felt prepared. Our group delivered a well-organized presentation, and I was proud of what we had accomplished together.
When the results came in, I was thrilled to see that a lot of people had enjoyed our project. I learned the value of time management, the importance of seeking help when needed, and the benefits of working as a team. and showed me that I could meet and exceed the demands of a challenging work environment. Looking back, im glad I went through that experience because it prepared me for the college experience, where I will be pursuing a future in the nursing profession. I know that the skills I developed during this challenging time will serve me well as I navigate the demands of a rigorous academic environment.
In conclusion, overcoming this academic challenge was a pivotal moment in my high school career. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of perseverance. As I move forward, I carry these lessons with me, ready to face new challenges with confidence and determination.
