Pride in my School Accomplishment by Norman - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

The first time that I have ever been awarded any type of accomplishment in a scholarly setting, will have to be when I was recognized as an "Honor Roll" student in middle school. Because I was awarded such a high honor, I was able to see myself among a group of dedicated students. It wasn't so much the recognition that made my proud but the emotional feel of being in a position I've never been in before. Not since I had gotten my first kiss was I as proud a person in the world. From that day forward I developed many traits that have stuck to this day.
The moment I received the award put me on another level in terms of being a quality student. From then on I wanted to keep up the recognition every semester after that. I was not as consistent as I would've liked but the recognition did not halt after the first time. The sense of pride has clinched onto my persona forever, it seems. From grade to grade I was able to hone in on many skills due to a fair education and rigorous work ethic. Through high school I began joining sports and even then I was still receiving awards for academic achievements. I also credit my social awareness and self-motivation, because without those factors I might not have remained as disciplined as I was.
I have yet to have a bad grade even after I left high school. I kept at a consistent work ethic, with reading, studying, and writing. I am currently attending graduate school at Grand Canyon University and am still learning new things. Although I am learning something new everyday, I will never unlearn the work ethic from middle school that helped me receive my first honor roll award.
