My Path to Self Discovery by Olivia - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

As a high school junior at Bay High School, I have always been dedicated to my studies and eager to learn. With a GPA of 3.93, I have consistently strived to do my best in all my classes. However, during my junior year, I faced a unique challenge that pushed me to make a significant decision about my future.

The challenge arose when I was offered a volleyball scholarship to a university that only offered one of the two majors I was considering. As someone interested in both marketing and Architecture, this put me in a difficult position. The scholarship was a fantastic opportunity, but I needed to decide which major to pursue to make the most of it.

I had always been drawn to both fields for different reasons. Marketing appealed to my love for creativity and communication, while Architecture resonated with my passion for artistic expression and spatial planning. Choosing between them was not easy, and I knew this decision could shape my future career path.

I conducted my own research on both fields. I looked into the career opportunities, job market, and potential growth in each area. I reached out to professors teaching marketing and architecture to gain firsthand knowledge about their day-to-day responsibilities and experiences of a college student in those fields.

Additionally, I reflected on my own experiences and projects. I considered the classes I enjoyed the most and the extracurricular activities that excited me. I realized that while I had a keen interest in both areas, my passion for architecture stood out. I loved the idea of combining math and physics with artistic design to create a unique structure that speaks not only to it's practical needs but is exciting to look at.

Despite the pressure to make a decision quickly due to the scholarship offer, I took the time I needed to weigh my options carefully. I learned the importance of being true to myself and choosing a path that aligned with my interests and goals.

This experience taught me valuable lessons about decision-making and self-discovery. I learned to trust my instincts, seek advice, and thoroughly research my options. It also reinforced the importance of aligning my choices with my passions and long-term goals.

As I look forward to college and my future career, I am confident that I made the right decision. The challenge of choosing my major early on was daunting, but it helped me grow and gain clarity about my aspirations. I am excited to pursue architecture and explore the endless possibilities it offers.

In conclusion, being challenged to choose my major early due to a volleyball scholarship opportunity taught me important lessons in decision-making and self-awareness. It was a pivotal moment in my academic journey, and I am grateful for the experience. I am now more prepared to face future challenges and opportunities with confidence and determination and a new perspective on myself.
