Education in 50 Years by Pauline - May 2020 Scholarship Essay
Education is a large part of everyone's lives today, we have struggled through middle school, high school, and some of us have even continued the struggle through college and graduate school. Despite the struggle that education might give us, we continue to put ourselves through it, in search of a better job, a better life, a better you. For many of our older family members, school was cut short, either for war or for work, and today we have seen education cut short due to the pandemic. Over the years we have found how important an education can be, but we have also discovered how everyone is different when it comes to learning. We have found no two students are the same, we are all individuals after all.
When you walk into a classroom there are no two students who learn in the exact same way. Although this can be harder to incorporate into a classroom in elementary and middle school, by high school most students are pretty set on the way they interpret information. Teachers may still give outlines, but are determined to have students speak their minds and do it in a way that is their own. As education becomes more prominent so does studying the way that kids learn. People today are already studying the habits of students in specific majors and deciding what is the best way to get information across in order to fuel future generations in their search to better understand the universe around us. They’ve found that students should not have information shoved into their minds or be forced to memorize equations and steps to get to the result of the problem. Instead, students should be building on their knowledge of the basics in order to solve harder problems or to understand difficult concepts.
This is how education is changing right now, today, we are already tweaking our education system to be the best it can be. Even within the last ten years, we have seen a movement towards an environment where we not only learn but can feel safe, both emotionally and physically. Schools have already become way more open to those who wish to express themselves in the way they feel on the inside and with that people have changed as well.
In fifty years our education will have changed even more, we will have discovered more of the world around us, found better technology to use, and probably even come up with more career choices to choose from. With that, we will still have the same human struggles we have always had, that one teacher you just do not get along with, procrastination, bullying, and students’ various learning styles. The point is, we have no idea what our education could look like in fifty years, maybe the world ends in twenty years! Education will change and adapt as humans change but hopefully, we will at least find out that it does not need to be as expensive as it is.
