Perseverance by Qynetta - April 2019 Scholarship Essay

Life is full of unexpected hardships and challenges. I believe that the only way to overcome those tough obstacles would be to keep moving forward and focus on the positive. I am a full-time college student, a full-time high school student, and a part-time Customer Service Representative. I have maintained a 3.6 high school GPA and a 3.0 college GPA all while working 30 hours a week. Many times I will not leave work until two o’clock in the morning, but I would not let that hold me back from my education. It wasn’t an option for me to quit working my part-time job due to the financial need of my family, so I had to learn to work around my school schedule and make time for my work.
I have been a part of the Samuell Early College high school program for almost 4 years. I have spent countless hours doing double studying to pass both my college courses and my high school courses. Early college is a program that allows students to complete 4 years of high school plus 2 years of college, in a total of 4 years. When I graduate in May 2019, I will have my Associates of Science and also my high school diploma. Growing up in a low-income family has given me courage and bravery in order to succeed. Keeping a job while in school was tough for me, but helping out my family was important. I used time management skills in order to overcome setbacks. As a result of not giving up, I will now be graduating on track for a diploma and an Associates of Science
