There are many skills necessary for success at the college level. These skills may include time management, awareness, memorization, effective reading and note taking, listening, confidence, and self-discipline. Where all of these skills are very important, they are not as important as leadership. Leadership is not limited to taking charge and organizing a group. Leadership is being an explorer, creating a path for others after you to follow. Being a leader is creating an inspiring vision for the future, a goal for those who follow you to achieve. Finally, leadership is motivating and inspiring yourself to be the best you can be.

Going to college seems to be a common goal in today’s society, but there are still families who do not have a college graduate, and students who are the first in their families to attend college. There are even scholarships given out by colleges for those students. This is where the leadership quality of being an explorer comes into play. In order to be successful in college, a student must be able to explore. He/she must be able to create a path that has never been followed before, to lead those who follow the student down that path. Every year, there are new college majors being created and new classes that can be taken. It takes leaders to try these things for the first time. If a student attending college is not a leader, they will not be able to achieve success.

The world we live in is full of dreamers, every person in the world has a dream they want to achieve at some point in his/her life. Being a leader does not mean leading each of these people to their dreams, but it is to create an inspiring future, a place where every person can achieve their dreams and goals. Going to college gives every student the opportunity to change the world, with their major, the opportunities they are given in college, and the classes they take. Their leadership is needed to create a better future for everyone around us, and because college is the key to changing the future, leadership is necessary for success in college.

Everywhere you turn there is another person giving an inspiring speech. They tell us to do things like change the world, be the best you can be, and always help others. When a college student is a leader, they do not need to hear those speeches. They are able to motivate themselves to be the best they can be, and achieve the most they can during the college experience.

Being a leader means a lot of things, it does not just mean leading a group of people. It means creating a path for others to follow, it means creating a better future where other people can achieve their dreams, and finally, it means being a motivator and an inspiration for everyone around the leader. These are all very important qualities for success in college, and without these, a student will struggle throughout his/her college career.
