If I Were Running For by Rachel - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I were running for student body president, I would focus on supporting and benefiting students and teachers, advocate for the school's resources, and engage the surrounding community with the school. In recent years, students have reported that they have had trouble focusing in classrooms due to lack of stimulation. Every student has a different way that they learn and it is important that they can access education in a way that is good for them. Focusing on supporting students through this, also means focusing on teachers and their teaching habits. Giving teachers access to a more diverse way of teaching other than lectures and independent time, could help benefit not only students but teachers as well. Another way to help support students is to make tutoring easier to access. As a student myself who has struggled in the past with certain classes, tutoring hasn’t been as available as it should’ve been. We will show students that it is okay to ask for help when you need it. Another way to make a positive impact on our schools is to spread more knowledge about mental health services. Which leads me into advocating for our schools resources. Providing counseling to students helps them navigate challenges that they are facing inside or outside of school which in the long run will help them academically. Another resource that will help positively impact schools is having good affordable food that students and staff can eat. Providing well prepared healthy meals can get everything in the right mindset to have a good day. Also keeping technology up-to-date and accessible to all, will help students with their different ways of learning. Making sure that schools are also getting high funding is crucial because without the funding and financial support, we wouldn’t be able to make anything happen. Engaging parents and the surrounding community with things like clubs, sports, and school events can help with the funding. A lot of citizens love to see younger people grow and think outside the box and would be more than willing to help donate to educational causes. If our schools hosted more events targeted towards students and families, our community would be brought together and strengthened. Strengthening our community will in return help with all of the other reasons to positively impact our schools.
