Passion for Government by Reaghann - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

The American government has always been a topic that has interested me, even from a young age. In elementary school my curiosity started to flourish not only when learning about it in class but also at home. My parents both have backgrounds in political science and government so we often have conversations about government, history and politics at home. They have always encouraged me to be curious, ask questions and to make sure I have all the necessary information before forming opinions. When I was in second grade my family and I went to the Ronald Reagan Presidential library in California. Even at that young age I can clearly remember being excited to learn about the president, the events that occurred during his term and his contributions to the United States. In third grade, for my annual school project, I chose to compare the American government to the Ancient Roman Republic. I remember having so much fun exploring and learning about how the American government differs and relates to another government system, and being able to rely on my father to help me with research and other questions. As I have grown older my interest in this topic has only grown stronger. Although I am not sure exactly what career path I want to take, my goal is that one day I can make a difference in my community and country and contribute to the betterment of America.
