Biology Class by Reed - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
During my junior year of high school, I faced a significant academic challenge in my AP Biology class. I have always been interested in science, which is why I plan to major in Health Education at West Chester University. However, this class was much tougher than I anticipated. The fast pace and complex material were overwhelming, and my initial test scores were disappointing.
Realizing I needed to change my approach, I sought help from my teacher, Mr. Thompson. He generously offered extra sessions during lunch breaks, where he explained difficult concepts in new ways and taught me how to break down complex topics. This support was invaluable.
I also joined a study group with classmates. Meeting twice a week, we quizzed each other and discussed challenging topics, which made studying more effective and less stressful. Teaching others reinforced my understanding. Additionally, I used online resources like educational videos and quizzes to learn at my own pace.
Gradually, my efforts paid off. My test scores improved, and I gained confidence in my abilities. This experience taught me the importance of seeking help and adapting strategies when facing challenges. It also strengthened my passion for health and science, motivating me to pursue a degree in Health Education.
Overcoming this challenge prepared me for the academic rigors of college and reinforced my resolve to succeed. I am excited about the opportunity to attend West Chester University, where I can continue to grow and develop the skills needed to educate others about health and wellness.
