Turning my Dream into Reality by Rhianna - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
The school accomplishment I am the most proud of is being accepted into the nurse anesthetist program at Marshall University. I have wanted to be a nurse anesthetist since the moment I stepped into the operating room during my nursing school rotations. I was fascinated by everything that was going on in that room and I knew it was where I would end up. Nursing is a career where you have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life every single day. I couldn’t be luckier to have the ability to help people through their best and their worst days. Sometimes I leave work smiling and sometimes I leave work crying, but I always leave work knowing that I helped someone. I couldn’t ask for anything more and I couldn’t settle for anything less. A career in nurse anesthesia will give me the opportunity to continue helping people while expanding my knowledge and growing as a nurse.
Getting into nurse anesthetist school was no easy task. You have to have a high GPA, score high on the GRE, get certified as a critical care nurse, be involved in the nursing profession and have outstanding recommendations. You must do all this while working full time because one of the requirements for admission is spending 2 years working as a critical care nurse to gain experience. Working as a nurse in critical care has been amazing and has pushed me harder to do my best every day. I have learned more then I could have ever imagined and I continue learning every day.
I spent the past 6 years paving my path to nurse anesthesia school. It was tough and I made plenty of sacrifices but opening my letter and reading the words “we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected” made it all worth it. I will spend the next 3 years pursuing my passion even further while earning my doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia and I will love every second of it. I am proud to say that with a lot hard work and dedication I turned my dream into reality!
