Strength in the Storm by Riley - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

During my senior year of high school, I attended college, played sports, and attended my high school classes. Everything was great until I became determined to finish my associate's with my high school diploma. I began taking 18 credits in college, along with my 4 high school classes, while also balancing a sport. It was hectic, stressful, and honestly one of the worst times of my life, but I was determined. I completed homework while at athletic events and made sure I balanced academics with everything else. I ended up completing my associate's with a 4.0 as well as my high school diploma. I was awarded valedictorian and athlete scholar of the year. Although it was a horrible experience, I would not take it back. BEcause although it was horrible, there were some fun times built in and life went on. It built me up for what college life is now and I came in prepared rather than confused at a different type of learning. Now I have been able to use that experience to balance my work and academic life while under much less stress. I intend to go to graduate school which will be another whirlwind in and of itself, but the invaluable experience I gained in high school is something I will never forget.
