In Ten Years by River - June 2023 Scholarship Essay

In ten years I hope to be making a positive impact in people's lives and I believe that by getting this education I will be better suited to make that happen. I cannot say with any certainty that I will be anywhere specific or doing anything specific. But I know I will be doing everything I can to make the world a better place. Whether that be as an educator or a counselor. Of course I may not “need” to have an education to make it happen but I believe I will be in a much better position to be an effective member of society with it.

There are not many things I would say have had a bigger impact on me in my life than when somebody took time to pay attention to me and really listen. That is what I hope to do for somebody else someday and the real way to get there is through a four year degree. This is just the way of the world and I must participate.

So in general I would say that in ten years I hope to be day in and day out giving people the same experience that I have valued so greatly. To have someone who does not need to, pay attention to them and show them they care. I really think having an education would allow me the freedom and the ability to gain access to these spaces. And to attain the knowledge that would allow me to be an effective force for good in the world.
