Technology: Making Learning More Efficient by Ronny - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

Technology has been apart of my classroom experience since elementary school, and it has definitely had a positive impact. First of all, my teachers have had smart boards in their classrooms for as long as I can remember. This has made class time and lectures much more engaging and interesting. Teachers are able to use them to give presentations, and we are able to interact with them more easily than with a traditional blackboard. Smartboards also offer students another option for presenting projects and showing what they have learned. Smart boards are not the only technology used in the classroom, though.

In middle school, we started using chromebooks, which were helpful in and out of the classroom. This gave us access to many more resources in school for researching and learning. It also enabled us to work together much more easily. With this access to technology we were able to work on our work from anywhere with anyone in our class. Having chromebooks definitely increased the amount of work we were able to get done, and improved our teamwork skills.

Now that I am in highschool, technology is used almost everyday in every class I have. Obviously, I use my laptop all the time in my computer science class, but technology is still important in my other classes, too, including English, Math, Social Studies, Spanish, and more. In English and Social Studies, we need technology for completing projects and research, in Math we do example problems on the smartboard, and in Spanish we do a lot of practice online using quizzes and games. Having access to computers and email allows us to get in contact with our teachers and classmates very easily, too. Overall, this technology has had a great effect on my experience in the school. Technology makes learning more efficient and interesting in the classroom, and connects teachers and students outside of the classroom.
