Recently, I survived the most challenging semester of my education thus far. Transferring from a two year college and going into my first semester of my dream university, I was not expecting to be as blindsided as I was. One of the courses that I took during this semester was operations management. In this course was a semester long project which required us to pair up with a company or organization of our choice, detect a problem relating to the operations of the company, create a solution to the problem we detected, and apply our solution. Throughout the project I was faced with many obstacles that I overcame with patience, determination, and discipline. The biggest lesson I learned through this project was the key to teamwork.
Although I see myself as very self-reliant, self-reliance will not get me very far in the business world. The project constantly tested my abilities to work in a team, which resulted in a growth in myself. I was able to master the essential traits of a workplace, such as tolerance, collaboration, and adaptability. I learned being a good team player is key to making progress, and the power of teamwork should never be underestimated.
