A Motivator, Not Money by Samuel - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
Over the next ten years, I hope to further my education while I begin my career as an educator of youth like myself. As a current high school student, I am inspired every day by the incredible teachers that surround and support me. I am fortunate to have people who are willing to support me in my interests and show me the wonders of their own. I have had math teachers that have given me a love for mathematics, literature teachers that have inspired me to read and write worlds into being, and science teachers that have made me look at the world in completely new ways. I have also had teachers that have inspired me to be the best person I could possibly be outside of school too, whether through humorous life stories or compassion in times of stress. I recognize my teachers as some of the best influences in my life, and I hope to replicate that drive for goodness in my own future career.
While anyone can teach, no matter their degree or lack thereof, getting a college education and becoming a teacher matters to me because I see in my own professors a passion fed by the belief that knowledge is the pathway to a better world. Even after becoming teachers, they chose to continue learning every day of their lives. To me, this inquisitive yearning for understanding is more important than any amount of money could ever be, and is something I hope to hold true to and pass on to my future students. Throughout the next ten years and for the rest of my life, I see myself passing on everything I have learned to the generations that follow in whatever ways I can. I aspire to be what my teachers have been to me, an in no way perfect, but still worthwhile inspiration in a world full of corruption and twisted realities.
