If I could make an Impact by Savannah - September 2023 Scholarship Essay

If I had the authority to change my school positively, I would try and diminish bullying since many children feel like they won't get repercussions. One of the numerous students claimed to have schedule issues. So I'd try to minimize those issues and criticisms. Students repeatedly express their worries about not being able to select the classes they want to take, particularly if they need to attend college. School is always about "prepping for success," but won't let us decide on something that will impact our futures.

Our hallways need renovation. We have 2000 students, and our hallways were not designed to hold that many students in one location at once. Classes typically have a maximum of 30 students to one teacher, which can be challenging. I'd like to make an effort to accommodate students with different educational needs or those who don't do well in large groups. This also applies to the halls, where everyone constantly runs into one another due to the close to 2,000 students enrolled in the school. If I could, I would try to space out the start and end timings of some classes. All students, staff members, teachers, and custodians would be safer thanks to my efforts.

Since we are like most schools, we have to practice for procedures. These drills for children can be scary but also necessary. I would try to do them more consistently as we only do them four times a week in the same month. It would be good practice so everyone would be prepared.

Air conditioning is a requirement when there are 2000 children. While the heat wave continues, we are still working on it. Sometimes learning is challenging because all of your attention is on how to stay cool in the heat. But maintenance is a must for air conditioning. Although it could require some time and attention, the school would offer it.

Each year's end, we hold a graduation. It is quite close to 500 or more children. We have speeches that can go for up to ten minutes. In order to spare these children's family and friends from sitting through a two-hour ceremony, we would need to provide them some type of other option that would offer the same outcome as a diploma.
