Being bilingual is something I am proud of, because being bilingual is not something that anyone can be the best at.
As a person who was born in a Hispanic country, it was difficult to speak English and learn how to write it. Being an 8 year old, we had to come to an unknown country where everything was different. The language was one of my biggest problems, how would I make it through if the city I lived in most people speak only English? It was complicated because I would get made fun of because I did not pronounced them the right way. Got made fun of because my grades were low, and couldn't bring them up for the simply reason of not knowing the language. How could I know the language when everyone around me only speak Spanish? As the years passed I got better at it even though it took me a lot of encourage.
Therefore, I got to the point where I had forgotten some of my first language , didn't even know how to write it. The only reason I would speak Spanish was because I had to at home. When high school started I found out I had to take 2 years of a language, told myself why not take Spanish? My parents always told me that a bilingual person counts as two for the fact that not everyone in this country speaks English. I knew the basic Spanish so why not learn more and learn how to write it. My first year in Spanish class I hated because it was so difficult to learn how to write it but as the years passed I loved it and got at it.
As a person who wants to be a psychologist, I want to be able to help people out, not only people who are from here deserve help . Everyone deserves it , I feel like Hispanic people in the United States get no psychological help because they don't feel confident with someone who does not speak Spanish. They would feel better expressing themselves with their first language.
Communication is something important in my life just like helping others. I would love to help other human beings out and let them feel confident about themselves and why not let them do it in their own language?
