Before I met Mrs. Tricia, mathematics seemed like an ancient language I couldn’t decode.

In ninth grade, my mom put me in a tutoring program because my grades in math never made it past a low B, making me extremely pessimistic about my ability to improve. It wasn’t until Mrs. Tricia’s approach that I began to understand math in a completely different way.

She explained math with grace and simplicity, as if she had invented it, connecting concepts I never saw as related—but always made sense. Her unique ability to break complex concepts down sparked my curiosity. I used to try and understand how her mind worked. On days when we didn’t have new concepts to cover, I would ask her about her childhood. She responded by sharing her experiences with me, giving me a glimpse into her way of thinking. This led me to realize that psychology intrigues me.

Over the years, my self-confidence in math grew, and my ability to think on my feet helped my grades soar from low B's to high A’s. Without Mrs. Tricia, I would have never learned how to read math like a book or thought about studying human psychology. Mrs. Tricia reminds me to approach challenges with passion and understanding—qualities I carry with me in all my studies. She inspires me to take action and dive deep into anything that interests me. I owe her my curiosity.
