What Education Means to Me by Shawn - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
Throughout my entire life, my parents have stressed the importance of education. Often I thought they were tough on me and pushed me; even when I didn't want to their guidance. What I didn't realize was the work ethic they were instilling in me and the drive to succeed. To me, education is a gateway to endless possibilities.
I have two dreams/goals for myself. The first to be afforded the opportunity to play baseball in college. The second to obtain a degree in civil engineering. Both of these dreams/goals are things that are attainable. More importantly, I realize that the two go hand in hand. Academics are critical to be a college athlete and without having good grades and being a dedicated and focused student, you cannot even entertain the idea of being part of an athletic program. Having an education means that I can choose my pathway in life.
To me, an education is something that is never ending. Each day we learn not only from books, but the experiences around us. The people we meet, the situations we are in, the things we read are all a vital part to our education. These aspects of education are something that can never be taken from you. No matter how old you get, what direction you go in life, or the obstacles that way come your way; an education will always be part of who you are as a person.
Education, in all avenues of your life, makes you the best version of yourself.
