Aspiration by Skyasia - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
My name is Skyasia Vargas, and I am a rising junior at Virginia State University, majoring in Biology and Animal Sciences. I am writing to share what deeply motivates me to pursue my academic goals and how I strive to stay focused on achieving them, even when the path feels challenging.
Ever since I was a child, I have had a profound love for animals. This passion was truly ignited by my first dog, a black Labrador named Buddy. He was not just a pet; he was my best friend and a cherished member of our family. When he was hurt in an accident, I felt utterly helpless. I wanted more than anything to help him, but I did not know how. That moment planted a seed in me—a promise that I would become someone who could help animals in need. It is this promise that drives me to become a veterinarian.
I constantly remind myself of this promise to stay focused. The vision of helping animals like Buddy keeps me going, especially when my studies feel overwhelming. I want to be there for animals in their time of need, to give them the care they deserve. This dream is what I hold onto during difficult times, and it is what keeps me pushing forward.
My current dog, DC, an XL Bully, also plays a significant role in my motivation. DC is a loving and gentle soul, but he faces several health challenges. Watching him struggle and knowing that I cannot yet fully help him is incredibly hard. The burden of high medical bills weighs heavily on my family, and I work tirelessly in my studies, hoping to one day alleviate this burden by becoming a veterinarian. I want to be able to provide the care that DC and countless other animals need. This is what drives me to stay focused and committed.
Though my high school GPA was 2.56, I am determined to prove that I am capable of so much more. I know I have the passion and drive to succeed, and I am committed to working hard to improve. I have learned to manage my time better and seek help when I need it. My love for animals and my desire to help them keep me going, even when things get tough.
I am also incredibly grateful for the support of my family and friends, who believe in my dream and encourage me to keep pushing forward. Their faith in me reinforces my own determination. I am inspired by successful veterinarians who have made significant contributions to animal care, and I hope to follow in their footsteps.
In conclusion, my motivation comes from my experiences with my dogs, Buddy and DC. They have inspired me to pursue a career as a veterinarian, and I am pleading for the chance to make this dream a reality. By staying focused on my goal and remembering why I started, I am confident that I can achieve my academic dreams and make a real difference in the lives of animals. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to share my story and thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Skyasia Vargas
