How Technology has Positively Impacted My Classroom Experience by Sydney - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

In an ever-changing world, technology has dramatically increased my generations’ cognitive thinking skills and performance; and it encourages the learning process as well as collaboration between students. For me, however, technology has done so much more than that. Taking a step deeper than simply motivating me to learn, I have been blessed to find my passion for digital media and communications in life and open doors to possibilities that I would have never dreamed could be possible.
Technology has motivated me to learn in unique and unconventional ways. By attending Random Lake High School, I have had the privilege to take part in the testing of virtual school days. Meaning that when the unexplainable Wisconsin weather inevitably gets out of hand and unsafe to attend school, I can continue my education from the comfort of my own home. Some argue that this takes away the freedom that comes with an exciting day off school. To that, I argue that this doesn’t disrupt our happiness, rather, it keeps our education system and school year in line. Being surrounded by technology has impacted my classroom experience dramatically because the responsibility and expectations I have acquired are setting me up for the real world and these skills can carry with me throughout my future.
Because of technology, I have been inspired, as well as called, to pursue my passion. Once I discovered the world of technology and the beauty that comes with it, I dug deeper into the branches of technology to find myself connected to the realm of digital media. Specifically digital media and communications. My calling became paramount and, without the tool of technology, I would not be able to live out my passion.
I stand by my opinion that technology has opened doors for me that would not have otherwise been opened. This ranges from doors in my mind, to hypothetical doors, to tangible doors. Things like newfound confidence and encouragement within myself translates into positive effects in the classroom. Through the use of technology, I have been enlightened and encouraged to develop my skills and become aware of the world around me. Rather than being held back to standard classroom expectations, technology has equipped me with the knowledge that takes place outside of the standard classroom. I have been granted the opportunity to take online classes in previous years and they have shaped my view on different careers in the future. Tangible doors have also been opened. Because of the dynamic standards technology has created, new classes have been created to meet those needs. By taking said classes, I have been enlightened and encouraged to fully grasp my self-confidence. Through the use of a change in view, I have left behind old opinions and obtained new, positive ones.
So yes, I am very thankful for the technological advances that have been weaved into classrooms because of the increasingly positive effects it has on other students as well as me. Technology has influenced my passions and my way of thinking. Without these brilliant progressions, I would not be the person I am today.
