STEM Girl Growing Up by Sydney - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

I plan to continue my education here at Eastern Michigan until I complete my undergrad program for clinical lab science. I’ve always been a STEM person in school and now I have consciously chosen to continue pushing and challenging myself. I put my best effort forward when it’s something I care about and want to do. Continuing my education, especially as an honors student allows me to follow my passion for science, learning, and building my independence. So far, I’ve taken nine science classes here at Eastern Michigan and have enjoyed the challenges they have presented me with. Especially now that I’ve started to get into my major-required courses for clinical lab science. I am currently taking genetics this semester and have enjoyed the learning curve of the class. I have learned new study techniques and have proven to myself that I can be successful even in challenging classes. This gives me hope for my future goals of being in the clinical lab field. I want to be able to work in healthcare but not so much in the spotlight. I stumbled into medical lab science and fell in love with the idea of being able to help people while still getting to work hands-on in a lab. For me to be able to follow through with being able to work in a lab or hospital I need to become a certified MLS which means completing my degree.
